THE UNSPEAKEASY COURSES

The Unspeakeasy School of Thought is still in the planning stages. In the near future, we hope to offer a variety of workshops, seminars, and one-time webinars designed in The spirit of The Unspeakeasy. That means instructors will emphasize artistry over identity, craft-based analysis of student writing, real-world advice from industry professionals, lively and nuanced discussion, and intellctul curiosity.

Right now, we are pleased to announce an online writing workshop taught by Unspeakeasy founder, Meghan Daum.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS

Personal Essay and Memoir Workshop on Zoom, taught by Meghan Daum

What is it?

An eight-week, once-a-week online workshop, on Zoom, for intermediate to advanced writers of personal essay and memoir. This is a coed class.

When is it?

Every Tuesday for eight weeks, beginning January 6 and running through February 24, 2026, 3 to 5 pm ET. If that’s your meal time, feel free to eat discreetly during the class.

How much does it cost?

$1500 paid by Zelle, Venmo, or personal check.

How it will work:

The class meets once a week for two hours on Zoom. I will lead general conversations about craft and the business of publishing (and we may get in a guest speaker or two) as well as discussions of student work. Each student will have two opportunities to workshop manuscripts up to 15 double-spaced pages, with at least 45 minutes devoted to each workshop discussion.

At some point during the course, each student will have the opportunity to meet with me privately on Zoom for 45 minutes. We can use this time to discuss your pages or any other writing-related issues.

Class size to be determined, but will not exceed 12 students.

How to apply:

Please send a writing sample not exceeding 15 double-spaced pages along with a note explaining your creative and professional goals to meghan@meghandaum.com by Friday, December 5, 2025.

I will get back to you within a few days of the deadline.

Applications are open to all. If you’re a member of The Unspeakeasy, you will soon get an email with this same info, but with links to the website portal. Don’t worry. It all goes to the same place.
